Thailand Sets Snap Election for February 2026

(MENAFN) Thailand’s Election Council announced on Monday that a nationwide vote will be held on Feb. 8, 2026 to choose new members of the House of Representatives.

Applications for parliamentary candidates will be accepted between Dec. 27 and Dec. 31, according to a media outlet. Party-list nominations and prime ministerial candidate submissions will be open from Dec. 28 to Dec. 31.

The announcement follows the dissolution of parliament last Friday by King Maha Vajiralongkorn, acting on the request of Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakulm. The royal decree was issued after Anutin formally sought fresh elections within the constitutionally required 45 to 60 days.

The current legislature was established after the May 2023 general election.

This move toward early elections comes against the backdrop of ongoing border clashes with Cambodia, which have claimed dozens of lives in recent months.
