Cambodia's Hun Sen Urges Crackdown on Officials Linked to Online Scams
In a special message, he said efforts to crack down on online scams must be accompanied by punitive measures against implicated officials and disciplinary action against those who ignore directives.
He stated that any officials involved should face court proceedings and property seizure, adding that provincial governors, military police chiefs, and police chiefs who fail to enforce orders should be removed from their posts.
"You will not succeed by only cracking down on online scammers without targeting complicit officials and those who fail to execute orders," he said.
Hun Sen, who also leads the ruling Cambodian People's Party (CPP), further urged authorities to interrogate arrested scam suspects about how they were able to enter the country without passports.
Cambodia has been carrying out a nationwide campaign to eliminate online scam networks.
According to a government statement, from July 2025 to mid-April 2026, authorities raided more than 250 scam-related sites, including 91 casinos allegedly used for fraudulent operations.
